Department of English

The J. N. Aier College was established in the year 2011 and offers courses at U. G Level. The Department of English envisions to making its students proficient in English language. Our mission is to inculcate literary sense, aesthetic sensibility, humanistic understanding and cross- cultural literary insight in a conducive and naturalistic environment. The ultimate focus is to cultivate critical thinking leading to creativity and innovation.

With a view to give diversified understanding and vision of literature, the department offers courses in History of English Literature and Language, Drama and Composition, American Literature, Indian writing in English, Writing in English from Nagaland, Literary Criticism, Literary Theory. Courses in Linguistics and Phonetics are also offered to introduce the students to the finer aspect of language learning. In terms of infrastructure and resources the department has a library with high quality books.

  • A drama on ‘Pygmalion’ by George Bernard Shaw on 12th July 2017.

Department of History

The Department of History has been consistently performing well in University Examinations. As History is basically the study of past. The objective of Nagaland University, under-graduate syllabus is to familiarize students with social, economic, political and cultural development of the past History.

As such the department has undertaken some historical tours on The History department has visited Champo Museum located at 6th Mile, Dimapur on 2017.

Department of History visited Kohima Museum, 2nd World War Cemetery which is located in Kohima District on 2018. Through these historical tours, the students are embodied with the past of Naga History.

Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology has a robust record of academic achievements for the past many years. The students consistently perform well in university examinations. The department has sincere and dedicated faculties who teaches many range of subject areas that includes studies related to Industry, Social Movement, Rural Sociology, Kinship, Marriage, Religion, Urban Sociology, Social Stratification and Sociological theories etc.

As Sociology is basically the study of Society, through its focus on teaching and learning, research and discovery, outreach and engagement, the department creates, conveys and applies knowledge to expand personal growth and opportunity, advance social and community development, foster social responsibility for which the department has organized various programmes related to it and has also visited places like Orphanage-'Mothers Hope' and had visited an industrial site in relation to its study etc.

Through rigorous academic training and active extra-curricular engagements, our students are equipped to explore a range of career choices such as in social research, journalism and media, human resources, government service, the development sector, social work, law, and the core areas of teaching and disciplinary research. A sociology graduate emerges as a critical and engaged citizen in a rapidly transforming world.
